The event is an opportunity to arouse the pride and responsibility of each woman and the people of Vietnam to preserve and promote the Vietnamese heritage. At the same time, it mobilizes a positive response from all sectors, agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals to help strengthen the Ao Dai position in society. The series of events that includes many activities, taking place from March to October 2020, has attracted the participation of many cultural researchers, ao dai artisans, designers, famous artists, and a large number of women and people.
The Ao Dai design campaign with the theme “Proud of Vietnamese Ao Dai”.
A central activity of this series of events is launching a campaign to design ao dai with the theme “Proud of Vietnamese Ao Dai”.
This program aims at preserving and promoting the national cultural values, affirming the cultural identity through Vietnamese Ao Dai. At the same time, this activity will create a creative playground for domestic designers, artisans, and lovers of ao dai when designing and protecting the intellectual property of their works.
The campaign to design ao dai “Proud of Vietnamese Ao Dai” takes place from March to October 2020 on a national scale, for all people living and studying in Vietnam regardless of gender, age, and ethnicity.
Participants in the campaign include: professional designers, artisans, fashion design students, amateur designers, Ao Dai tailors … This can be seen as an opportunity to encourage the flexibility and creativity of designers in using any materials and techniques on clothing for women and girls of all ages.
Each author can send up to 5 sketches or photos of their works. The designs must comply with the copyright regime, must not be copied or taken from designs of any individuals and organizations, and will be received by the Organizing Committee before August 30, 2020. Finalists’ designs will be shown on materials and need to be submitted before September 30, 2020.
The awards include 2 categories: For professional designers and amateur designers. Each category includes 01 First prize; 02 second prizes; 03 third prizes; 04 Consolation prizes. There are also topical prizes: Creativity award, Design on featured materials award, Young designer award, Prospective Designer award, award for most favorite and voted designer by the audience. The award ceremony and performance of the winning works were held on the 90th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union (October 20, 2020) in Hanoi.
Performing ao dai on Vietnamese Family Day – June 28
Within the framework of the event “Ao Dai – Vietnamese Cultural Heritage”, Vietnam Women’s Union has also coordinated to organize many outstanding activities. In addition to the scientific seminar “Vietnamese Ao Dai: Identity, customs, values and identity” taking place in June, the Vietnam Women’s Museum cooperated with the National Institute of Culture and Arts to organize the exhibition ” Ao Dai – Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage ”on June 26, 2020.
This event will clarify the values related to ao dai, the historical, artistic, cultural, and social values of the Vietnamese ao dai, helping collect information for establishing a document to recognize national-level intangible cultural heritages related to Ao Dai.
Particularly, on Vietnam Family Day (June 28), there will be a performance “Ao Dai – Vietnamese Cultural Heritage” at Van Mieu- Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi).
The show will exhibit 21 Ao Dai collections attached to Vietnamese heritages recognized by UNESCO. Directed by designer Minh Hanh, this show will introduce unique designs exploiting traditional materials of designers from all parts of the country.
