Pioneer in creating copper wire art, only train the disabled people

Nguyen Nhat Minh Phuong (33) has been recognized by Guinness Vietnam as the first copper wire artist in Vietnam.  With her passion for copper wire, she creates a new type of arts and only passes the making process on the people with disabilities.

After more than 10 years spent following her passion for copper wires, she now owns a small shop in Go Vap District (Ho Chi Minh City) with impressive products that are favored by the domestic market and exported to New Zealand and the USA.  She also opens the vocational training class for more than 10 disabled students.

She was originally a preschool teacher without much knowledge of art. She said:  “I know nothing about the rules of painting, I create the paintings with love and passion for art and with what I have learned by myself. I haven’t studied at school for art.”

It started when I was 19 years old. I accidentally held a copper wire in my hand and after a while playing for fun, I turned the copper wire into a fancy jewelry item. It was unexpected to me.  The copper wires seemed to have extreme magic power, which stimulates me to create non-stop.  In 2016, after quitting the job as a teacher due to acute pharyngitis, I had time to wholeheartedly devote to this new type of art”.

With a passion for volunteering, she traveled to many regions to help and give gifts to disadvantaged people. The image of young people with disabilities keeps clinging to her mind for a long time.  Then she came up with an idea to teach them handicrafts. This will be a type of paintings only made by disabled people.

She started to study business, then founded the company despite the objections of friends and family. They thought that this type of painting was not well known enough so the risk of founding a company was so high.  Fortunately, this young lady found her own place in the market.

Many business people offered her to franchise or to invest to expand her company for cooperation, but Phuong refused.  She wants to work independently with her special “comrades”.
