Colorful Art Encounter

From the delicate strokes on dó paper to the vibrant colors rich in folk cultural elements, each piece tells its own unique story, carrying a distinct personal mark while contributing to a harmonious and emotionally rich whole.

From December 20 to 26, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum will host an exhibition by the group of artists Vũ Thái Bình, Lê Thế Anh, Cấn Mạnh Tưởng, Lê Thanh Bình, Nguyễn Cao Hoàng, and Nguyễn Ngọc Tuấn, titled “Anh Em Vol. 3”. This marks the third exhibition of the group, not only an opportunity for the artists to interact and share their artistic perspectives but also a creative journey where they push their own boundaries with each new presentation.

Tác phẩm màu nước trên giấy dó "Mùa xuân Tây Bắc" của họa sĩ Vũ Thái Bình
The watercolor on dó paper “Spring in the Northwest” by artist Vũ Thái Bình.

Artist Vũ Thái Bình fully harnesses the potential of dó paper to create delicate depictions of the landscapes of Northwest Vietnam. What makes his latest work particularly captivating is not only the strength of his brushwork in large-scale pieces — a challenging feat with dó paper — but also the small paintings with fresh and experimental colors. He dares to “play” with large areas, bold strokes, and bright hues, even employing oil painting techniques like stippling in his brushwork.

Meanwhile, continuing his surrealist style, artist Lê Thanh Bình delves into the theme of Đạo Mẫu (Mother Worship). Drawing inspiration from folk culture, for Lê Thanh Bình, this subject matter is a personal need, as he has long been passionate about it in his previous exhibitions. His works thus represent a fusion of Eastern storytelling with the spatial composition and oil painting techniques of the West, offering a refreshing and modern appeal while retaining a strong sense of cultural identity.

Tranh sơn dầu "Hạc giấy" của họa sĩ Lê Thế Anh
Oil Painting “Paper Crane” by Artist Lê Thế Anh
Known for his portraits of mountainous regions, artist Lê Thế Anh has established a distinctive realist painting style. However, in this exhibition, he boldly eliminates depth and perspective to introduce expressive and decorative motifs into his work. Using the traditional multi-layer oil painting technique, he continues to excel in vividly and emotionally portraying the lives of children in highland areas.

Artist Nguyễn Ngọc Tuấn, celebrated for his vibrant and dynamic color palette, presents a series of landscapes in this exhibition that reflect a subdued, contemplative beauty shaped by the passage of time. This is particularly evident in his depictions of Hội An, the 500-year-old ancient town.

Meanwhile, artist Nguyễn Cao Hoàng demonstrates intensity in his surreal, somber works that evoke psychological struggles, layered messages, and internal conflict. At the same time, his paintings of flowers, birds, and everyday objects convey a sense of lightness and tranquility.

Artist Cấn Mạnh Tưởng contributes to the exhibition with works that reflect his deep understanding of highland customs and traditions. His pieces showcase a nuanced and graceful mastery of color, bringing cultural narratives to life with subtlety and charm.
