THE DESIGN IMAGE OF SECOND VINH TUY BRIDGE WITH 8 LANES SPANNING THE RED RIVER

With 8 lanes including 4 lanes for cars, 2 lanes for buses and lanes for non-motorized vehicles. Vinh Tuy No 2 is the first bridge in Hanoi that has bus lanes. After investment procedures complete, Vinh Tuy No 2 is expected to be constructed by the end of this year.


The bridge spans the Red River with a length of 3.4 km and a width of 8 lanes. The bridge will be 21.2m from the current one to downstream the Red River. The bridge’s vertical height clearance is 11 meters from the Red River water surface. This vertical height clearance ensures large vessels can move safely on the river.

The cross-section of the bridge shows that there will be in the is a wide median strip in the middle of the bridge. It is arranged with trays filled with green plants. Under the bridge is divided into 4 special lanes, with lanes for buses, lanes for non-motorized vehicles.

Besides, each lane is clearly specified for each type of vehicle.

There are support pillars that are plugged deeply into the water.  These are permanent concrete bored pile with a diameter of 2 meters.

The girder is designed as Super T with prestressed concrete. It is 1,758 meters in length with span diagram (1 × 39 + 3 × 40) m + 7x (5 × 40) m + (4 × 40 + 1 x39) m. Together with the permanent concrete bored pile, Vinh Tuy Bridge No 2 has been able to withstand level 8 earthquakes.

Specifications of the Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge project

The bridge was invested to build according to the plan of completing the Ring Road 2 of the capital city and promoting linkage between two banks of the river for socio-economic development, security and defense of Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien districts in particular and the Capital Hanoi in general, as well as connecting the city center with the city’s north and northeast, improving exploitation conditions, ensuring traffic safety, creating a premise for the formation of an urban chain in the North of the Capital and gradually improve the transport infrastructure system of the Capital.

The project belongs to Group A – Class-I Constructions with an investment of more than 2,5 trillion VND sourced from the city’s budget and the project implementation period is from 2020 to 2022. The investor is the Hà Nội People’s Committee. The representative of the investor is the Management Board of transport construction investment project of Hanoi City
