In the afternoon of October 13th 2022, Do Dinh Hong, Member and Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports had a meeting with Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao – Representative of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in Vietnam. Attending the meeting were Mr. Kjell Sundin, industrial development specialist of UNIDO headquarters in Viena, Manager for Component of promoting creative industries and digital manufacturing in Hanoi of Hanoi Rethink project; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tu, Coordinator, UNIDO Component of Hanoi Rethink Project; representatives of departments and units under the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, including: Department Office, Cultural Heritage Management Dept, Legal Organization Dept, Financial Planning Dept, Art Management Dept, Cultural Management Dept.
At the meeting, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao and Mr. Kjell Sundin reported on the activities that have been implemented by the Hanoi Rethink project. This is a project within the framework of the Joint Program entitled Mobilizing Cultural Resources and Youth Participation for the Creative Capital – Hanoi. Hanoi Rethink project is implemented from June 2022 to March 2023 with the desire to promote creative industries and digital manufacturing in Hanoi.

Under this collaborative project, UNIDO will map experimental production laboratories (FabLab – abbreviated from Fabrication Laboratory) and creative hubs in Hanoi, provide a training program in industrial design and technology 4.0 for creative industries and organize a design contest to support the development of innovative solutions in the field of creative industries in collaboration with local laboratories, companies and other organizations/universities. UNIDO is partnering with the Fab City Foundation to carry out the activities of the program.

Implementing the project, UNIDO organized the contest “Circular Life Design Challenge”. With the theme “Circular Life”, the contest seeks new ideas capable of promoting and developing the values and heritage of Hanoi city in the cultural and creative economy, design challenge, and at the same time encouraging design directions and innovations of interdisciplinary, creation and sustainability, demonstrating the talents of Vietnam’s manufacturing, designing, and creative community. The competition is conducted in partnership with three UN agencies UNESCO, UNIDO and UN-Habitat. On the morning of October 13, the Organizers awarded 3 top prizes for the outstanding ideas of the contest.
