EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCES IN ACTIVITIES OF UNESCO’S CREATIVE CITIES NETWORK

On the morning of August 26th, at the headquarters of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Do Dinh Hong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and representatives of some departments and agencies of Hanoi had a meeting and exchanged experiences in the operation of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network with the Delegation of Sukhothai Province (Thailand) led by Ms. Patcharaon Wongkumhaeng – The deputy governor of Sukhothai province.

Do Dinh Hong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Ms. Patcharaon Wongkumhaeng – Deputy Governor of Sukhothai Province chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the two sides introduced and exchanged potentials, strengths, experiences and the process of building and developing creative cities; identify the possibility of cooperation and learning from each other when both sides are members of UNESCO’s Network of Creative Cities.

In the process of building a Creative City, Sukhothai Province has developed plans to develop projects that promote community strength and existing potential; combining color preservation with creativity; actively expanding cooperation, participating in forums, meeting and learning experiences from cities in the Network; coordinating with organizations and individuals, especially universities, experts … In particular, special attention is paid to sustainable development and closely follows the UN’s sustainable development goals; implementing commitments to UNESCO on local empowerment, bringing practical benefits to people and communities; promoting awareness and participation of people in building and developing creative cities…

Members of the delegation of Sukhothai province also expressed their impression of craft products, the active participation of people and communities when they visit and learn about the reality in Bat Trang pottery village and some other craft villages of Hanoi. Besides, they suggested activities that can be implemented in the coming time such as organizing the events for artisans of 2 cities to exchange, or developing the training sessions for artisans under the support of UNESCO…

Talking to the delegation of Sukhothai province, Do Dinh Hong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said that unlike Sukhothai province developing folk crafts and performing arts, when joining UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, Hanoi chooses the field of design as the features in accordance with its characteristics, potentials and advantages. The design field will satisfy the interests and needs of the community; it will promote the development of the remaining areas. Over the past time, Hanoi has implemented many specific activities to promote the development of creative cities in the field of design.

Mr. Do Dinh Hong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Ms. Patcharaon Wongkumhaeng – Deputy Governor of Sukhothai province presented souvenirs of traditional handicrafts of Hanoi and Sukhothai province.

 At the end of the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the results achieved, and expressed their desire to continue exchanging and cooperating in the coming time to promote the development of the Creative City of 2 sides.
