GREEN SOLUTIONS FOR A GREEN, CLEAN AND LIVABLE CAPITAL

According to Director of Lagom Vietnam Company (organizing environmental education and enhancing awareness about environment) Tran Van Hieu: Currently, Hanoi capital is one of the best places to implement the milk carton collection program. More than 1,000 schools in 30 districts have become pilot models, giving provinces outside Hanoi the opportunity to be consulted to implement this meaningful program.

Starting from the program for students, the collection of milk cartons has spread to the whole community, to many social organizations, residential areas, even industrial parks and businesses also participate in the implementation. The program forms a small activity with a great impact, contributing to building a green and beautiful Hanoi Capital and educating, raising people’s awareness of the environment.

Milk cartons are collected in exchange for trees, contributing to environmental protection

Statistics of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training show that more than 90% of students from public preschools and primary schools in the city participate in the school milk program. This means that a large amount of milk cartons is discharged directly into the environment. Therefore, the collection and recycling of milk cartons will reduce the amount of waste and also be an opportunity to create environmentally friendly products from that waste.

In addition to implementing environmentally friendly models and solutions, 2022 is also an important year with the amended Law on Environmental Protection in 2020 taking effect (from January 1, 2022). This is a period of strong transformation in environmental protection, towards the highest goal of improving environmental quality, people’s health, ecological balance, biodiversity conservation and sustainable economic development.

In Hoan Kiem district, the model of “Exchanging garbage for gifts” taking place from 2020 to now has achieved many impressive results. Low-value plastic waste collection locations include: Collection of straws, plastic cups, packaging of snacks, instant noodle in 6 wards: Hang Dao, Hang Sai, Hang Drum, Hang Bac, Phuc Tan, Cua Dong has collected more than 16 thousand tons of garbage (in 2022), to bring to the recycling plant after only 3 months of implementation.
