Hanoi Coordination Center for Creative Activities: A strategic step toward building the capital’s creative ecosystem

Aiming to become a creative city of regional and global stature, Hanoi has officially launched the Coordination Center for Creative Activities, a new cultural institution tasked with fulfilling the city’s commitments as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

The Center was established under Decision NO.5067/QĐ-UBND dated September 27, 2024, issued by the Hanoi People’s Committee, defining its functions, responsibilities, authority and organizational structure within the framework of the Hanoi Museum. The Center serves as a focal point for implementing programs and initiatives aligned with Hanoi’s UNESCO commitments while promoting the sustainable development of creative industries in the capital.

Located within the grounds of the Hanoi Museum in Nam Tu Liem District, the Center includes both outdoor and indoor exhibition spaces, forming an open complex dedicated to the creative community. This is not only a venue for showcasing design and innovation initiatives but also a gathering place for engagement, interaction, and exchange among artists, designers, creative entrepreneurs, and the public.

In terms of function, the Center coordinates and promotes creative activities, attracting and connecting creative resources at both the local and international levels; introduces, shares, and supports the pilot implementation of ideas in the creative field. It also serves as the initial permanent location of the Hanoi Creative Design Hub, laying the groundwork for a future incubator for talent development in creative design sectors.

In terms of duties, the Center is responsible for organizing and implementing initiatives to connect organizations, institutions, and individuals working in creative design in Hanoi, as well as in other UNESCO Creative Cities in Vietnam and around the world. It coordinates, supports, attracts, and mobilizes resources to promote creative activities as a component of sustainable development. It also organizes and implements programs to improve the capacity of the creative community, including seminars, training courses, education programs, and support for research collaboration and pilot implementation of new creative projects and ideas.

The establishment of the Hanoi Coordination Center for Creative Activities is not only a new institutional structure but also a key catalyst in shaping the capital’s creative ecosystem. It is considered a strategic move to promote creative culture as a driving force for the knowledge-based economy and to enhance Hanoi’s and Vietnam’s standing on the global creative map.
