“INFINITY HANOI” – WON THE FIRST PRIZE FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL PLAN OF TRAN HUNG DAO BRIDGE

The design idea of Tran Hung Dao bridge across the Red River, connecting Hoan Kiem and Long Bien districts has been approved for final selection according to Decision 3103/QD-UBND dated 29/08/2022 of Hanoi People’s Committee. Tran Hung Dao Bridge with the design meaning “Infinity Hanoi” will soon become a reality, serving the people of the capital in the coming time.

Accordingly, the Hanoi People’s Committee has identified and selected the first prize-winning design plan called “Infinity Hanoi” implemented by the consortium of NIWA Architecture Co., Ltd. – Chodai & Kiso-Jiban Vietnam Co., Ltd. – Chodai Co., Ltd. – NH Village Architectural Design Co., Ltd. This is also the option scored the highest by the Architectural Examination Board and also the most voted by the people (in both online and face-to-face voting) at the community consultation exhibition in March 2022.

According to Article 17 of the Regulations on examination of the architectural design plan of Tran Hung Dao Bridge, the organization with the winning plan will be selected to implement the next steps; be guaranteed copyright, negotiated to sign economic contracts for project implementation and subsequent design steps when there are sufficient capacity conditions as prescribed by the Law on Architecture and the Law on Construction; if there are no qualified competencies, it is possible to cooperate with qualified consulting organizations to perform.

According to Mr. Ho Thai Hung – General Director of Chodai & Kiso-Jiban Vietnam Company – Leading member of the consortium, the organization of the examination for tran Hung Dao bridge architecture plan in the form of a wide entrance exam instead of the selection form has created fairness for domestic and international consultants when attending. At the same time, public consultation in both face-to-face and online forms is also a creative way of organizing in collaboration with Architecture Magazine – Vietnam Association of Architects, helping information to be public and transparent.

Sharing about the idea, he also said that in order to design the “Infinity Hanoi ” plan, the members of the Consortium had to invest maximum human resources, promote their strengths to create products suitable for urban architecture aesthetics while meeting the requirements of practical applicability and sustainability over time.

In particular, NIWA Architecture Co., Ltd. has technical strengths, international experience from Japan in the field of architecture; Chodai Japan Co., Ltd. is a unit specializing in designing large bridge structures combined with experience and understanding of natural, social and historical conditions of Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular of Chodai & Kiso-Jiban Vietnam Co., Ltd. (CKJVN) and NH Village Architectural Design Co., Ltd.

Explaining more about the idea of forming this design, Mr. Takashi Niwa – Director of Niwa Architecture Company, Chief Architect of the plan said that the bridge located in the center of the Capital has the main idea of the image of Hanoi without limitations. Connecting the spans are two wavy lines that form the image of the infinity curve bearing the endless symbol of space and time of Hanoi. The design also shows the intersection of waves, visualization of the lines connecting the two regions, across the Red River with a very meaningful history.

Mr. Tran Dai Nghia – Representative of NH Village Company expressed: “The ultimate goal when implementing is to design the best and most beautiful architecture for Hanoi. Therefore, the Consortium hopes that this bridge will not only meet traffic needs but also show the combination of regional space associated with modern bridge architecture.”

“When completed, we expect the bridge to be not only a traffic project but also a friendly destination for residents and tourists, in line with the development of the city.  Not only in terms of architecture, “Infinity Hanoi ” is also carefully studied by the Consortium on the feasibility of the structure, design solutions, technology plans and total investment” – Mr. Ho Thai Hung representative of the Consortium said.

The members of the Consortium are all units with practical experience through many projects, many creative design competitions and have won many prestigious awards in Vietnam and internationally. Specifically, in 2020, the NIWA-CKJVN-Chodai Joint Venture won the First Prize – Thu Thiem Pedestrian Bridge Architecture Selection – Ho Chi Minh City; The consortium of NIWA-CKJVN-Chodai-NH Village won the second prize in the architectural competition of Nguyen Trai Bridge – Hai Phong City (2022) …

• Niwa Architecture Co., Ltd. has won many architectural awards such as: Asia Design Prize (Hongkong) – 2018, Green Good Design Award (USA) – 2019 for Pizza 4P’s Phan Ke Bính building project, BCI Asia (Singapore) – F&B category for IPPUDO Vietnam project – 2020.
• Chodai & Kiso-Jiban Vietnam Company (CKJVN), established in 2014, has implemented the design of Nha Trang – Hon Tre sea crossing bridge (2019), high architectural requirements such as Bong Lau bridge, Cha Lao bridge in Ninh Binh (2022), Swan bridge in Ecopark, Hung Yen (2021) … Meanwhile, Chodai Co., Ltd., the parent company of CKJVN is a Japanese corporation that has participated in many ODA projects in Vietnam such as the Bính bridge project in Hai Phong (2005), Nhat Tan bridge in Hanoi (2015).
• NH VILLAGE Architectural Design Co., Ltd. has also won the BCI Asia Interior Award of Singapore (2020) for the interior of C2-Apartment, as well as many works featured in prestigious domestic and international magazines.

Tran Hung Dao Bridge is located between Chuong Duong Bridge and Vinh Tuy Bridge. The south of the bridge connects to Tran Hung Dao street at the border of 2 districts Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi.

In November 2021, the contest to select architectural plans for Tran Hung Dao bridge was organized to find architectural design for Tran Hung Dao bridge to ensure high feasibility, suitable for the landscape, meeting the highest conditions for the design and establishment of investment projects for the construction of Tran Hung Dao bridge. The contest was organized by the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Management Board, Architecture Magazine – Vietnam Association of Architects is the consulting unit to organize the entrance exam.

After more than a period of organizing the contest, judging and consulting people on the architectural plan of Tran Hung Dao bridge, out of 20 plans of 12 qualified domestic and international consulting and design units, there were 3 outstanding plans selected to rank first prize (DD1188), Second Prize (VT0002), Third Prize (TT1228).
