
LAUNCHING THE CONTEST “HANOI PUBLIC ART DESIGN 2022”
On the afternoon of August 25, 2022, at Meeting Room C1-C2 of the Green One UN House, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Architecture Magazine – Vietnam Association of Architects and the United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN-Habitat) coordinated to organize the launching ceremony of the contest “Hanoi Public Art Design 2022”. This is an event within the framework of the Creative Design Festival 2022, in order to implement plan of joining UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network by 2025. The entire program is under the direction of Hanoi People’s Committee and Vietnam Association of Architects.

The contest “Hanoi Public Art Design 2022” aims to encourage young people, especially students, to discover historical and cultural values of the Hanoi Old Quarter and propose ideas for designing public art space (including indoor and outdoor space). The designs will be innovative design models and solutions applying new technology which have educational and aesthetic value to make arts and artistic creation activities closer to the public. Young people will be able to participate in activities such as talk shows, workshops, training sessions, etc. to meet and ask experts for perfecting ideas and professional capacity.

Mr. Do Dinh Hong, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports assessed that public art design was an important field. Over the years, Hanoi had always received the attention of UN-Habitat as well as universities and all classes of people, with the desire to build Hanoi more and more beautiful. This contest will help Hanoi capital to have more public art spaces, help Hanoi authorities have more plans and ideas to replicate public spaces in the capital for Hanoi to make positive changes and become more livable. Hopefully, the contest will receive a positive interaction from students and young people in design schools in the city.
Mr. Jonghyo Nam- serves as a Chief Representative of UN-Habitat in Vietnam affirmed that the UN-Habitat Human Settlement Program was honored to accompany Hanoi city and delegates at the launching ceremony of “Hanoi Public Art Design 2022” contest. This contest is an activity within the framework of projects to mobilize cultural resources and youth participation for creative Hanoi. Through this contest, UN- Habitat hopes to create a playground, opportunities for young people and empower them to connect to stakeholders including local authorities, private partners and the community joining hands in the process of turning Hanoi into the Creative Capital of Southeast Asia…

The contest received the companionship of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee and the professional coordination of schools: Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi University of Architecture, University of Industrial Fine Arts, Vietnam National University, and University of Science and Technology of Hanoi…

The prize includes 01 First Prize (01 Breakthrough Idea Award); 02 Second Prizes (01 Best Innovative Application Idea Award, 01 Best Technology Innovation Idea Award); 02 Third Prizes (02 New Creative Ideas). The Organizers will award 05 prizes worth from 15 million VND to 30 million VND for the best ideas. The contest announcement and award ceremony will be held at the opening ceremony of the Creative Design Festival 2022 (scheduled to be held on 11/11/2022).

The contest is open to creatives people including the students of universities and colleges in the field of architectural design, interior design, fine arts, culture… and artists, architects, designers, especially young designers who are interested in the creative design of public works of art.
