Hanoi food culture festival 2019

Evening June 7, 2019 at Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2019 took place. The event was attended by Vice Chairmen of Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy and Nguyen Doan Toan.

Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2019 was organized by Hanoi People’s Committee to honor culinary cultural heritage from Hanoi in particular as well as from the North, Central and South of Vietnam in general; and to celebrate the class and elegance of Hanoian people in the preservation and promotion of the capital cuisine, step by step promote tourism through food culture.

A performance to celebrate HFCF 2019

The event took place in 3 days (June 7- June 9, 2019) with many activities to promote and celebrate the fascinating culinary cultural heritage. The festival center also reproduced the signature cultural spaces, from Ha Giang highland’s houses, the ancient villages of the Northern Delta, Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the ancient town of Hoi An….to Ben Thanh market with many cuisines and delicacies all over Vietnam.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi’s People Committee, Mr. Ngo Van Quy delivered the opening speech of the festival.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Mr Ngo Van Quy stressed that Vietnamese cuisine is a sophisticated heritage formed as an inherent part of Vietnamese culture and has played its role to captivate many tourists and international friends. Vietnamese cuisine is highly diversified, each region has special dishes with its own signature taste. Along with international integration and development, Hanoi Capital has become a culinary melting pot from all regions within the country, as well as a place for the convergence of culinary essence of the country as a whole.

A stall at the Festival this year

With the participation of more than 50 production companies and traditional Vietnamese food processing, the festival this time had 30 stalls divided into 3 main areas: Northern, Central and Southern cuisine areas. The Northen one introduced specialties such as Grilled chicken with Indian Prickly Ash seeds (Hạt mắc khén), Hà Giang’s Pa Pỉnh Tộp Grilled Fish; Pác Bó’s bamboo-tube rice, crab noodle soup, Hải Phòng’s crab rolls; Steamed “Phở” rolls, Shrimp in batter, Hanoi’s Kebab Rice Noodle… The Central one included Nghệ An’s eel soup, Quảng Nam noodles, Hội An’s chicken rice; Beef rice noodle, Vietnamese Tapioca dumplings, Huế lemongrass skewers, … The Southern one presented Inflated fried sticky rice with chicken and bamboo leaves, Rice paper rolls, Char-grilled minced Prawn on sugarcanes dishes with chicken and bamboo leaves; spring rolls; curling sugarcane shrimp; Cần Thơ’s Pan-fried scrambled egg rice cake ; Nha Trang’s grilled seafood…

Also in the framework of the festival, there were performance activities, introduction of the art of gastronomy, fruit trimming art and dish decoration showcase done by notable artisans and chefs from Vietnam Chefs Association and Vietnam Food Association. The event is free admission and open to public.

Products displayed at the festival

Through this event, Hanoi People’s Committee called upon everyone to attend the event with excitement and fun and conduct polite and civilized behavior in public and at the same time, promote the sophistication, elegance, and friendliness of Hanoi people.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy expected each of the city’s citizen would act as a messenger and cultural bridge to introduce and promote the beauty of food culture in Hanoi in particular and in Vietnam in general to local and international friends.
