Many creative ideas about environmental protection at Global Children’s Designathon 2024

The Global Children’s Designathon 2024 global science competition with the theme “Make it Cycle – Design for a better future” (The power of circular design – Design for a better future) has just taken place in Ban Mai Middle School – High School (Ha Dong district, Hanoi) has attracted the interest, attention and participation of many students.

Following the success of Global Children’s Designathon in previous years, Ban Mai Middle School – High School continues to coordinate with Designathon Works Educational Organization (Netherlands) to organize Global Children’s Designathon 2024 – a science competition Global, helping connect students around the world to create and manufacture environmentally sustainable products, contributing to a better world.

In 2024, the contest has the theme “Make it Circular – Designing for a better future” (The power of circular design – Design for a better future) revolving around the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. .

According to the Organizing Committee, starting from the research of the Global Footprint Network (GFN), experts and scientists have calculated, measured, quantified, estimated and warned humanity are using more than the biosphere’s ability to supply or regenerate resources. Environmental destruction occurs faster than nature’s ability to recover. Many questions have been raised, is there any way for us to reduce the situation of overusing natural resources?

Revolving around the theme of Global Children’s Designathon 2024, competing teams came up with many creative ideas with circular design models, aiming to extend the life cycle, recover raw materials and fuel to make the most of multi-value of discarded products, aiming to minimize negative impacts on the environment, reduce waste and pollutants.

Competing teams share ideas at the Competition.

“This is the first year I can participate in Global Children’s Designathon. Here, I learn more knowledge about Science, Physics, Chemistry… – very new things for a 6th grade student like me. We were able to contribute, share, discuss, and create very

At Global Children’s Designathon, English is used entirely throughout the contest. A special feature of the program format is that each competing team will include students from 9 to 13 years old as contestants, and students from 14 to 17 years old will take on the role of instructors. To come up with a unified idea, the students in the competition team went through a process of self-instruction, learning, research, exchange, and criticism that took place continuously and regularly through working sessions. after-school group at school.

After 6 years of organizing the Contest, Ban Mai Middle School – High School has nurtured many generations of students who are passionate about science, confidently grow from the role of contestants, then return to the role of role of guiding and leading the underclassmen.

The First Prize of the Contest was awarded to Team 4 with the idea “Circular farm” (recycling CO2 on the farm).

All 5 teams have the ability to present, criticize, use English confidently and fluently, and apply 21st century skills, including thinking skills and working skills to come up with solutions together. Get solutions to reduce resource use, reduce or eliminate waste, combat climate change, and contribute to protecting the planet.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trong Nghia (Lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, member of the Jury Council) shared: “I was very surprised and delighted with the students’ creative ideas. At this age, children have initially identified hot global issues and with the knowledge they are learning, they have applied it flexibly and creatively through model products. Recycling. This science playground is also a way for us to educate students about common issues of all humanity, so that the younger generation has more responsibility and understands the true spirit of environmental protection.”

After the competition rounds, the Jury Council commented, contributed ideas and awarded prizes to teams with creative ideas, high practicality and consistent with the criteria of the Global Children’s Designathon theme. 2024 “Make it Circular – Designing for a better future” (The power of circular design – Designing for a better future).
