MOVing WITH CONTEMPORARY CALLIGRAPHY

Phieu Dieu Space – a space dedicated to displaying contemporary calligraphy works of two artists – calligrapher An Xuyen Nguyen Quang Thang and Thiem Phong Pham Van Tuan is displayed at the Center for Culture and Arts at 22 Hang Buom.

Rong Ran Len May is a unique highlight for the space for culture and arts at 22 Hang Buom.

The large and small contemporary calligraphy works decorates the space, including the large work Rong Ran Len May hanging above the ceiling and two paintings – “Vo de” hanging on both sides of the hallway.

It seems that the “dynamic” element is what the two calligraphers from the Tien ve calligraphy group always wanted to convey in their work. Even in the exhibition space of Phieu Dieu – a static space, we can also see the “dynamic” when each stroke of the pen in each work expresses the release of energy that evokes strong emotions for visitors.

The work “Vo de (Unnamed)” is untitled with a combination of black and red colors of soil ink – a typical ink made by Artist Nguyen Duc Phuong.

The exhibition space consists of 16 Nom calligraphy works, but is presented in the spirit of abstract expressionism, and the aesthetics of visual art. For example, The Sword Lake has blurry ink strokes as a background that contrasts with the handwriting. Some works use patterns from ancient epitaphs, stamp and ancient publications – classic materials to serve as a background, both aesthetically pleasing and connected to history. Or Phieu Dieu – the exhibition’s themed work hung in the center of the room impresses by splitting into three parts and then hanging upside down. The two works “An trien (Stamp)” on either side of the room create the effect of depth and shadows by placing seals of different heights. Each letter on the publications has been separated by the author (artist Nguyen Quang Thang) to leave only the silhouette of the word.
