“SKETCHES OF HANOI OLD QUARTER” EXHIBITION – FAMILIAR AND NEW

Coming to the exhibition “Sketches of Hanoi Old Quarter” of Urban Sketchers Ha Noi, a member of Urban Sketchers Group, visitors have the opportunity to admire many unique sketches.

Hanoi Old Quarter – modern and traditional, new and old, all intertwine in vivid scene on the left of the Center for Arts and Culture at 22 Hang Buom.

It is so proper to describe the leisurely and dynamic lifestyle of the old quarter through these sketches. Each row of trees, each alleys, each people, etc., whether drawn with a few quick sketching or elaborated to every detail, contributing to a panorama of Hanoi’s old quarter.

The sketches evoke our feelings that are both new and familiar. For example, Dong Xuan road in the minds of Hanoi people is crowed, and full of people rushing in a hurry, but through the sketching lines, it is presented to be simplify with the sunset light passing through the leaf, and shining on the facade of the familiar market. The dusty little shops that we sometimes pass by on the side of the road bring an idyllic beauty reminding us of the atmosphere of a traditional Vietnamese village.

Times change, though the old quarter puts on modernized and trendy appearance with colorful signs, cars, high-rise buildings, elegant men and women in fashionable clothes, etc, the delicate features of the people and landscapes here still exist, and are more lively and graceful through each sketch in the exhibition.

The sketches evoke the love for the old quarter – the center of the land of thousand years of civilization; encouraging actions to preserve and protect traditional beauties. Thereby, building an old town following the orientation of a civilized and sustainable city.
