UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network Forum 2024

Global Forum of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network took place in Braga, a UNESCO Creative City in Media Arts, Portugal from 01 – 05 July 2024. The Global Forum this year has attracted over 700 delegates participating in person, including mayors, deputy mayors and focal points from over 250 creative cities around the world.

A significant highlight of the 2024 UCCN Global Forum is the endorsement of the Braga manifesto which echoes with the 2022 MONDIACULT’s call for A Culture Goal for Sustainable Development in the post 2030 international development agenda.

Mayors around the world underline the importance of strengthening international cooperation at local level, calling for the universal recognition and protection of cultural rights, leveraging strong linkages between creative industries and culture to foster sustainable and inclusive urban tourism as a driver of socio-economic growth, diversification and wellbeing. Global Cities leaders also reaffirm the support to protect culture professionals at risk in crisis.

During the Global Forum, delegates of creative cities from Viet Nam, namely Ha Noi, Hoi An and Da Lat also had a meeting with Mr. Ernesto Ottone R., UNESCO ADG Culture, together with Mrs. Denise Bax, Secretariat of the UCCN and Mrs. Huong Pham, Chief of Culture unit at UNESCO Ha Noi Office.

UNESCO ADG Culture welcomes the creative cities from Viet Nam and appreciates the shared vision in promoting the culture diversity and placing culture at the heart of development strategy. UNESCO also welcomes the more active participation of Viet Nam’s creative cities in the network, not only in learning but also in sharing the local good practices with peers around the world. UNESCO also encourages Viet Nam’s creative cities consider to host UNESCO global meetings where good stories in Viet Nam could be vividly shared with the international community.
