Up to now, Vietnam has been recognized by UNESCO 8 World Heritage, 15 intangible cultural heritage, 9 cultural heritage documentary, 11 world biosphere reserves, 3 global geological parks, 9 Ramsar area (wetlands). Besides, there are 485 national intangible cultural heritage.
Prominent in the heritage system of our country is 8 world heritage, including 5 cultural heritage: Hue Monuments complex, Hoi An ancient town, My Son Sanctuary, Central Monument. Thang Long citadel, Ho citadel; 2 natural heritage is Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Island; 1 mixed heritage is Trang An landscape population.
Cultural heritage and natural heritage are gold mine for the tourism industry to exploit and bring it to the foreign currency.
Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province) was honored by UNESCO as the first world natural heritage in 1994 thanks to its unique landscape. In 2011, Ha Long Bay was voted as one of the 7 new natural wonders of the world. In 2000 and 2011, the second and third Ha Long Bay was registered as a world natural heritage thanks to its special geological – geomorphological value. In September 2023, Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) in the whole with the Cat Ba archipelago (Hai Phong) was once again recognized by UNESCO as a world natural heritage.
