“Pop-up Choir: ‘One Day as the Wind’ Debuts in Hanoi with ‘One-of-a-Kind’ Experiences”

In a hurried world, sometimes all we need is to sit together and let our voices blend with the wind. On June 29, 2025, in celebration of Vietnam Family Day, Toong 51 Phan Boi Chau was honored to accompany Gió Xanh (Green Wind)—a multi-generational choir community—in bringing the spontaneous choir program “One Day as the Wind” (Một ngày làm Gió) to people of all ages and all vocal ranges, with no prior experience or audition required.

A new concept for music lovers

At Pop-up Choir: One Day as the Wind, music lovers aged six and above—especially families and anyone who enjoys singing or choir activities—can join this community arts experience, rehearse together, and appear in a unique and lively choral performance.

The event is expected to be an unforgettable highlight in this summer’s cultural lineup. In just three hours, under the guidance of conductor Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, participants will rehearse and perform the song “Grown Up Yet Still Crying” by musician Nguyen Hai Phong. It is an opportunity to connect and listen to oneself within a collective sound—a rare and precious experience in an increasingly fragmented world.

The term “Pop-up Choir” may still be unfamiliar to many in Vietnam. Similar to a “pop-up store,” which appears unexpectedly and offers a special short-term experience, a Pop-up Choir is a flexible group-singing event open to all. Instead of long rehearsals or professional requirements, it invites anyone with a love for music to learn and perform a piece together in just a few hours.

“Pop-up Choir: One Day as the Wind” is the perfect embodiment of this spirit. Designed to break down the misconception that choir singing is complicated, it transforms the experience into an accessible, joyful playground—where even those who have never set foot on a stage can immediately become part of a magnificent harmony.

Pioneering community choir development

Founded in September 2019, Gió Xanh (Green Wind) quickly established itself as Vietnam’s pioneering community choir. With more than 200 members of diverse ages (from 6 to 85) and professions, Gió Xanh continues to prove that genuine music knows no boundaries.

Since its inception, Gió Xanh has defined its core mission as connecting people, spreading and elevating musical aesthetics within the community, and contributing to a healthy, creative environment. In this space, music becomes the lasting glue that binds generations and harmonizes differences.
