Discover the unique exhibition space “Where It One Was”

From May 31 to July 20, 2025, a unique artistic experience awaits you at Á Space (59 Ngo Gia Tu Alley, Long Bien, Hanoi)—the exhibition “Đâu Hoàn Đó” (Where It Was, It Returns), curated by Vu Duc Toan. It is not merely a display but a journey to discover a unique space where artistic memories are brought back to life, and artworks and artists reunite in a surprising and meaningful context.

“Nhất Hồi Niêm Xuất Nhất Hồi Tân”: Each Time It’s Stirred, It Is New

The core of “Where It Once Was” lies in the profound philosophy from the saying of Trần Nhân Tông: “Nhất hồi niêm xuất nhất hồi tân” – Each time it’s stirred, it is new. Curator Vu Duc Toan explains that when an artwork is placed back in a familiar position, it is no longer intact as it was originally—”It is breathing with today,” he shared. “Just like the artists—as long as we are still breathing, we are still creating and thinking about art.”

This is a special invitation for the public not only to see but also to feel the transformation of the artworks, witnessing how they interact with time and space. Every moment at “Where It Once Was” will be a unique, fresh experience, even if you might think you are looking back at something familiar.

The Unique Exhibition Space: More Than a Gallery

Á Space stands out as a unique space, not only in its location in a small Hanoi alley but also in the way it becomes an inseparable part of the artworks themselves. “Where It Once Was” fully exploits this, transforming every corner into a unique point of discovery.

The audience will be led on a multi-sensory journey, traversing seemingly unrelated spaces: from the entrance area to the main room, and even an unexpected connection to the house next door—Mr. Tha’s house, or even the neighbor’s printing workshop. This breaks the traditional boundaries of an exhibition gallery, turning the entire area into a living artistic experience where you can touch, listen, and feel.

Reunion of Creative Impressions

The exhibition proudly gathers artists who have left a deep mark on Á Space, creating a meaningful reunion. It is hoped that, at some point in time here, we will have beautiful moments to collectively glance back at the past and see that the artworks are still there yet are not exactly themselves anymore. “It is breathing with today, just like the artists—as long as we are still breathing, we are still creating and thinking about art, whether persistently or occasionally.”

“Đâu Hoàn Đó” is a sincere invitation for you to step into a space where art is not just to be admired but to be experienced, to feel its vitality and continuous transformation. Don’t miss the opportunity to join this unique journey at Á Space.
