Film screening and talk : “Mr. Toàn & The secret studio”
On July 26, 2025, the film screening and talk “Mr. Toàn & The Secret Studio” was organized by Varan Vietnam at the APD Art Protection and Development Center.

The event was part of the activities celebrating the 20th anniversary of Varan Vietnam—a non-profit organization dedicated to documentary filmmaking training and practice in Vietnam. On this occasion, the two works presented were both made by young filmmakers during the Creative Camp in early 2025.
“The secret studio” by Nguyễn Thiên Ân brings viewers back to the space of an inclusive school, where twin brothers Phát and Nhân nurture their musical dreams in a small recording studio in the dormitory. The film opens a window into their daily lives, aspirations, and the bond of youth. Meanwhile, “Toàn ơi” (Hey Toàn) by Nguyễn Hồ Bảo Nghi places the main character, Mr. Toàn, at the center of a Hanoi neighborhood, where his diligence creates a familiar rhythm of life. This simple story, however, contains reflections on love and the boundary between reality and dreams.
In addition to providing an opportunity to access new perspectives in Vietnamese documentary film, the screening also aimed at community significance. All contributions from the audience, after deducting organizational costs, were sent to Mr. Toàn’s family to help with medical expenses. This is also the way Varan filmmakers choose to connect artistic creation with compassion in life.
