The two artists appearing in the music night are representative names of international folk and contemporary music. ArtistNgo Tra My- Lecturer at the Vietnam National Academy of Music – famous for her ability to subtly exploit the nuances of the monochord’s sound. Not only performing on many international stages, she also conducts in-depth research on traditional musical instruments and participates in many creative projects such as The Six Tones, Thang Long group or the new music group MMTM.
Accompanying her is Mats Eden, Sweden’s leading composer and violinist. A founding member of the folk music group Groupa, Mats has spent decades studying and developing Nordic music. His powerful yet delicate fiddle style is deeply rooted in his Värmland and Norwegian heritage, seamlessly blending tradition and the contemporary.
The focus of the concert was a “dialogue” between two iconic instruments – the Vietnamese monochord with its expressive tone and the Western violin with its romantic depth. Although different in form and sound, both instruments are cultural “storytellers”, taking listeners “through” musical spaces that are both familiar and new.
In the cozy space of Manzi, Hanoi audiences experienced a cross-border musical journey, where East and West, old and new blended together. The creativity in the collaboration between the two artists made the concert an unforgettable mark, affirming the power of connection and the ability to renew traditional musical heritage.
